PACKAGING DESIGN
Advanced Design Studio: Identity
California College of the Arts

This project is a packaging redesign for the Chinese makeup brand Florasis. The initial product I redesigned was the Dewy Touch Lip Balm. Inspired by Florasis’ strong connection to Chinese cultural identity, the concept centers on the folklore of the red string theory—the belief that two people destined to meet are invisibly connected by a red thread regardless of time, place, or obstacles. The packaging concept incorporates this symbolism through the name “Mìng,” which in Chinese refers to destined fate.

Both the Romanized name and the Chinese character are integrated into the visual identity. The packaging itself features a red string that the user pulls to open the box, reinforcing the narrative of fate and connection. Inside, the lip balm follows the same visual system: the brand name appears on the exterior casing, while the Chinese character for Mìng (命) is embossed directly into the lip product.
